Prep and Aftercare Instructions
How to Prepare for Your Appointment
Prior to your appointment, please practice good personal hygiene, drink plenty of water, eat a good meal, and avoid long sun exposure in the area that you are getting tattooed.
If you are getting tattooed in an area that has body hair, feel free to shave the area the night before. If you are prone to irritation and/or ingrown hairs after shaving, you may avoid shaving and Zach will take care of the area at your appointment.
You are welcome to bring anything that will make you feel more comfortable during your appointment including snacks, non-alcoholic drinks, headphones, etc. You can also bring ibuprofen to manage pain and swelling.
Aftercare Instructions
Keeping your tattoo clean, especially in the first 72 hours after getting tattooed, is crucial to the healing process.
Take the wrap off the first night and wash your tattoo thoroughly with warm water by using a fragrance-free antibacterial soap (ex. Liquid Dial Gold). Be sure to wash away any plasma build up that developed under the wrap. Once washed and rinsed, pat dry with a clean paper towel and let air dry for 10 minutes.
Rewrap with clean plastic wrap for the next couple of nights at bedtime. Make sure to wash and dry before rewrapping. Typically, you don’t need to add lotion in the first couple of days.
By day 3 you can begin applying a light layer of unscented lotion (ex. Curel Fragrance Free) after you wash and dry your tattoo.
After the first day, do not over wash your tattoo, typically twice a-day is sufficient unless you are participating in activities where you are exposed to dirt, prolonged sweating, chemicals, etc. Moisturize lightly whenever your tattoo feels dry and/or tight. Generally, you want to keep your tattoo moisturized but not over moisturize so that you don't suffocate your healing skin.

If you have followed proper aftercare as outlined above, and you are noticing signs of infection such as swelling, increased pain, pimples/blisters, etc. please visit an Urgent Care to consult with a doctor as you may need to be prescribed antibiotics.
